A Special Note from
Dr. Jane Bicks
Formulator of Life's Abundance Dog Food
January 2006

Most likely, you have heard about the tragic situation in the news
recently. At least 100 dogs nationwide died as a result of eating
contaminated pet food from a well-known pet food company. This company
has recalled 19 varieties of dog and cat food in 23 states. The toxin
comes from a fungus found on corn and other crops and can cause severe
liver damage in pets. Unfortunately, this terrible tragedy has not ended
yet … more dogs are showing symptoms of the toxin.
This is an extremely difficult time and our hearts go out to the
families of those dogs that have died. As you know, our pets are our
family and the loss of a dog or cat is just as painful as the loss of a
family member.
That is why I want to assure you that your pet is not in any danger
eating any of our HealthyPetNet foods. As a veterinarian and formulator,
I am aware of how the aflatoxin mold attaches itself to corn and other
crops. That is why we have never used corn or wheat in our foods and we
never will. Of equal importance is our quality control program, which is
designed to keep our pet foods safe.
As you know, we have a very worthy mission at HealthyPetNet. Our mission
is to provide healthy, wholesome and safe products for pets so they can
live the happiest, healthiest and longest life possible. That’s why we
believe this is a good time to spread our mission to as many pet owners
as possible.
All of us
at HealthyPetNet are dedicated to the health and well being of pets.
It’s our Pet Promise to You and Your Customers.

What is Aflatoxin?
Aflatoxin is a
naturally occurring substance produced by fungi that grow on grains,
including corn. Humidity, high temperatures, or drought are some
of the conditions that contribute to aflatoxin growth on crops.
Aflatoxin is toxic and can cause severe liver damage in animals.
Symptoms of Aflatoxin Consumption:
Pet guardians whose animal may have
consumed an Aflatoxin contaminated product or pet food are urged to
contact their veterinarian if their pet exhibits any of the following
symptoms, which may indicate Aflatoxin consumption:
- Sluggishness;
- Loss of appetite;
- Jaundice (yellow whites of the
eyes, gums, belly or areas where hair is very thin);
- Severe, persistent vomiting
combined with bloody diarrhea;
- Discolored urine;
- Fever
Experts say that since other illnesses
can cause the same symptoms, it is important for a veterinarian to check
any suspected cases.
